We moved onto our farm in 2001. We have had many animals over the years from rabbits and goats to horses and donkeys. However, dogs have always been our favorite. We have taken in several rescue dogs and others were given to us because they needed to be re-homed.
After our elderly dogs passed away a couple years ago, we found ourselves dog-less for the first time and wondered what breed would be right for us. This time we would get to pick a breed and choose a puppy. How exciting! My husband had always wanted a border collie because of their personality and intelligence. I did a lot of research and found a breeder who had been breeding border collies on his working cattle farm for 30 years. We were really pleased with his line of dogs that are from the original Scottish line. We went all the way up to Northern Washington near Canada to get Pixie. We were surprised that not all his dogs had the traditional facial marking of the AKC line. She is ABCA registered which doesn’t have that marking requirement. She has a beautiful look and people have commented on her face saying it looks like it was painted. Hence, the name of our farm.
6 months later, I decided it was time for me to pick out a new puppy. I have always been fond of the yellow lab. I searched until I found a breeder in Eastern Oregon that had beautiful dogs and all the health tests done to ensure a healthy line. We got first pick of the litter and I chose Peaches. Her breeder was surrounded by peach orchards. As we were leaving their property, she snuggled up to my neck and I said, “she is as sweet as peaches.” The name stuck.
During one of our camping trips that summer, our son mentioned that if he ever got a dog, he would want a fluffy one like a poodle and he would name it Larry. Well, we decided it was time for him to get his first dog of his own. Again, I did a lot of research and found a poodle breeder in Eastern Washington that breeds small standard poodles called moyen size. This size was perfect for him and we were put on the waiting list. We were able to get first pick again and were so excited when the cute puppies were born. All the males were black and white party colored. Exactly what we were looking for. Our son picked out Larry and he fit right into our family.
With these 3 dogs we started a new adventure of breeding dogs. Our goal is to produce happy, healthy, and well socialized puppies to pass along to good homes. We use Early Neurological Stimulation to get them used to being handled and comfortable in different situations. They are raised in our home for the first 5 weeks to get used to the sounds and smells they will encounter in your home. They then move to our puppy room where they have plenty of room to run and play. They will also get to go outside several times a day to play. At six weeks old we start playing a puppy sound CD that has 76 different sounds on it to desensitize them to sounds they will hear in the future. We also start them on beginner agility equipment to get them used to stepping on different types of surfaces.
The puppies will come to you with their first immunizations complete, health certificate from the vet, and de-wormed. They will come with a favorite toy and a blanket with the mom’s and littermate’s smell. We feed the puppies and mom Diamond Natural all life stage chicken and rice dry food. We will send some of this home with the puppies. We also want to ensure that our puppies are going to a good home. We ask that you fill out our puppy questionnaire to get to know a little more about you and the living situation they will be going to.
